2. YOU SHOULD ENJOY YOUR WEDDING DAY - NOT TURN IT INTO A STAGED PHOTO SHOOT (schedule a separate editorial portrait session with us if that’s your thing).
   
   

3. THERE’S BEAUTY IN the SPONTaNEITY of REAL MOMENTS - THAT tweaking poses to PERFECTION or getting a train to lie perfectly symmetrical - CAN’T EVEN COME CLOSE TO. embrace the beauty of imperfection.

4. THE MORE SINCERE FUN YOU HAVE TAKING PHOTOS, THE MORE JOY YOUR PHOTOS WILL BRING YOu when you look back on them. let’s be besties for a day and plan on having a good time together.

   
   

5. a faked moment isn’t a moment worth remembering. if having a photo of your mom zipping you up in your dress is important to you, be sure you have your mom zip you up in your dress.

6. some of your day’s most treasured memories will come from how we MAKe THE MOST OF those things that didn’t go as you had originally planned. we’re going to make the best of what comes - you should be prepared to do the same.

WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO ON THE WEDDING DAY

(AND WHY AFTER 20 YEARS, taking photos SOMETIMES SEEMS TO BE THE LEAST OF IT)

YES, WE TAKE BEAUTIFUL AND TIMELESS PHOTOGRAPHS THAT YOU AND FUTURE GENERATIONS WILL BE ABLE TO LOOK FONDLY BACK ON FOR YEARS TO COME…BUT,

THE TRUTH IS, WE’RE SUCCESSFUL NOT only because of what WE DO WITH A CAMERA, BUT also BECAUSE OF WHAT WE DO WITH PEOPLE. (YOU’LL SPEND MORE TIME WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER THAN YOUR SPOUSE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY - so HOW WE approach THINGS MATTERS QUITE A BIT.)

To put it into perspective for those not experienced with weddings: for a day, we are invited into a couple’s most sacred, intimate, and personal spaces - where dreams and visions are placed on stage to mingle and compete for attention with egos and worries. A day usually set to a challenging timeline and dosed with a touch of stress, nerosis, and periodically stirred by elements outside one’s control (but don’t worry, the dress, the flowers, the food, and the band are all perfect!).

it is IN THAT ORGANIZED CHAOS THAT WE DEFTLY DANCE IN AND OUT OF MANY DISPARATE ROLES ON THE WEDDING DAY - WE BECOME COACH, CONFIDANTE, AND THERAPIST. WE ARE NOT THERE SOLEY AS PHOTOGRAPHERS; WE ARE THE PRODUCERS, DIRECTORS, STYLISTS, LIGHTING, & STAGEHANDS, GAFFERS AND GRIPS OF THE FEATURE YOU’RE BOTH FILMING AND PREMIERING that very evening.

AND WE DO all THAT WHILE WE KEEP An ever WATCHFUL EYE ON EVERY PERSON AND EVERY DETAIL AT EVERY MOMENT of your extended day. BECAUSE WE’RE ON THE HUNT FOR THOSE MOMENTS THAT WE KNOW YOU’LL TREASURE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

(AND AT THE VERY LEAST you CAN NOW appreciate why IT MIGHT BE better to not HAND US SOME GENERIC shot list your friend pulled from a magazine with THINGS LIKE ‘shot of BRIDE COMING DOWN AISLE' ON IT. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH FAITH TO SKIP THAT, WE SHOULD PROBABLY SPEND A BIT MORE TIME CHATTING.)

SO YES, OUR CLIENTS CONSISTENTLY RAVE ABOUT THE MOMENTS WE CAPTURED THAT THEY NEVER EVEN SAW, AND GUSH OVER HOW WE MADE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING LOOK EVEN BETTER IN THE PHOTOS THAN THEY DID IN REALITY, AND HOW WE SO PERFECTLY CAPTURED THAT JE NE SE QUOIS OF SUCH AND SUCH A PERSON. BUT THEN THEY LOOK US MORE DEEPLY IN THE EYE, AND OFFER EVEN MORE PERSONAL GRATITUDE FOR ‘THE EVERYTHING ELSE’ WE DID. THEY ARE SO GRATEFUL THAT WE WERE DISCRETE DURING THE CEREMONY, TACTFUL WITH AUNT MILLY WHEN SHE WAS DOING THAT THING THAT AUNT MILLY SOMETIMES DOES, THAT WE DID FAMILY PHOTOS SO QUICKLY AND ACTUALY MADE THEM FUN! THAT WE WERE ‘NEVER SEEN’ UNTIL THEY LOOKED FOR US AND REALIZED THAT WE WERE RIGHT THERE NEXT TO THEM THE ENTIRE TIME. PROFOUNDLY APPRECIATIVE THAT WE ASTUTELY GUIDED THEM THROUGH SOME CHALLENGING MOMENT, PROMPTED THEM TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AN UNSEEN OPPORTUNITY, THAT WE SUBTLY REMINDED THEM, WITH JUST AN INVISIBLE GESTURE - THAT THE RING GOES ON THE OTHER HAND, OR ANY OTHER MYRIAD OF LITTLE TIPS THAT ARE SECOND NATURE TO US. AND MOST OF ALL, THAT WE GAVE THEM THE CONFIDENCE AND PRESENCE OF MIND THEY NEEDED TO MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR WEDDING DAY AND TRULY ENJOY THEMSELVES.
