FAQS - ALBUMS IN GENERAL
No, we are happy to pick the pictures for you. In most cases, we prefer it. We try to tell a smooth flowing story of your day and we find we get the best results when the album designer can pull from the full palette of photos with which to paint the picture. We will design an album of the style, size, and approximate length you select. After the design is complete, we'll send it to you for comments.
Absolutely. In the end, we will make the album as you want it to be. Having done this hundreds of times, we find that it's most productive for us to give you a start by giving you a carefully considered design that you can then modify as desired. In the end it will have exactly the photos you want - the way you want them. It usually takes 2 rounds of reviews to finalize the design.
Once the image design is locked, our retouching artists will begin their work. The retouched album design is then sent to you for final approval before being put into production.
We have many options for Parent albums. Some parents want a copy of their child's album. Other parents prefer to have an album of their own design that features their friends. We are happy to go over all the options with you.
Pages of the coffee table book are fine art prints made on cotton rag papers. The prints themselves are seamlessly folded when bound to the following print. Thus each page is actually 2 heavyweight prints bound back to back. The resulting pages are firm, yet flexible and allows for a book that is thinner, more streamlined, and easier to manage than most albums of the same page length. Vellum end pages protect the first and last pages. The lack of seam means that we have more flexibility in designing the book, since images are free to run through the center.
One of the most stunning features of the Coffee Table book is the matte finish fine art paper they are printed on. The papers feel solid and have a nice weight to them so flipping through the book provides a nice tactile experience for your hands that underscores the quality of the printing itself. Unlike traditional photographic papers, the matte paper is completely non-reflective so you have a fully glare-free experience when viewing the book in any lighting and from any angle.
We call it the Coffee Table Book because it’s something you’re going to want to leave out all the time. It will take pride of place in the center of your home and invite your friends to open it and take in the stunning fine art prints.

FAQs - COFFEE TABLE BOOKS
The fine art prints of the coffee table book are fully archival pigment prints. These prints will last even longer than traditional photographic prints under the same conditions.
The pages are sprayed with an invisible sealer that helps to protect them from hand oils etc. Prints will remain pristine for generations under normal handling. To be safe however we recommend that you don't eat PB&Js while looking through your album.
A variety of leathers and book cloths are available as covers. Embossing or an inset feature photo are available at no additional charge as well. View cover material options here.

Like the Coffee Table Book, the entire page of the flush album is a single photographic print - the primary difference is that these pages are traditional photographic prints that are bound to a heavyweight backing board - making for a heavier page, and a more substantive medium weight book. Since the entire page is a print, we can design it so that print contains one image or many images. Borders can be left around the images or they can run straight off the edge of the page. Center seams can either be split or folded as you prefer.
The thick boards on which the photographs are mounted result in a medium weight book that definitely says, “I’m the wedding album.” It can be left out for viewing or kept on the shelf and pulled out periodically for you, friends, and family to enjoy a full wedding album experience.
FAQS - FLUSH STYLE ALBUMS
Since there are not two additional layers of matting on the page (1 layer per page side) each page is about 2/3rds the weight of a matted page. As a result, the entire album is lighter.

Each traditional photograph is hand inlaid into a custom cut heavy-weight matting with gap left between the edge of the photo and the page matting. One look and you know this is exquisite craftsmanship. It’s as if each photograph is individually framed on the page.
The matted album is available in a number of sizes and formats. We need to determine the size, style, and format before we begin designing - but the final page count wont be determined until you have exactly the album you want.
Our Matted Albums and Flush Style Albums are made by the same manufacturer. The photo printing and binding is identical but the pages are built differently. In the Matted Album (left below) each photographic print is cut out and inset on a page with that has a thick matting applied to it. The result is similar to the matting that you would do of a photograph that you mat and frame for a wall. The thick matting means that each page is physically thicker and the resulting book will be heavier. In the Flush Style Album, the entire page is one large print that has multiple images on it with white space left between them. The prints are adhered to the same thick underpage as the matted album however since there is no matting around the image in the flush style album those pages are a bit thinner. As a result, the Flush Style Album is also a bit thinner and lighter.
This album comes with a little story. To date it is the longest album we have ever made. In fact, it went into two volumes. Ironically, it was also the smallest wedding we’ve ever shot, consisting of the bride, the groom, and 3 guests. The three guests were their children; the oldest boy, his; the girl, hers; and the youngest child, theirs. The family is from Europe and surprised the children with a wedding while on their vacation in the United States.
Actually, it comes with two stories. During the ceremony, the officiant’s dress caught on fire. The piano player, Pilley, calmly pointed it out to those of us engrossed in the ceremony. The groom put her out. Weddings - gotta be ready for anything…
Note that while the matting is not visible in this design below, each page had a heavy white mat into which each of these images was separately set.
FAQS - MATTED ALBUMS
You can fit the same number of images in a matted album although in some cases, the images will be slightly smaller to allow for a minimum size gap between the images to allow for the matting.
We can combine flush style images in a matted album. The opposite is not true however.

The Fine Art Folio was actually conceived by our clients who appreciated how exquisite our handfinished fine art prints were and encouraged us to find a way to make some sort of album from them. It took a year of work to have special papers made exclusively for us and to develop a process that would allow fine art prints to be handled safely in archival book form. Then we turned to sourcing exotic leathers and book cloths and finally find an artisan skilled enough to work our materials into a binding worthy of the prints. We are very proud of the result. They really are like nothing else.
Each print is made by hand in our studio and reviewed and approved by Brian. The extra heavy weight 100% cotton rag matte finish fine art paper they are printed on was specially made for our studio and has an incredibly luxurious hand. The experience is like a trip behind the scenes to an art gallery or museum - where the curator encourages you to touch the art. The quality of the printing is unmatched by anything. Whether an incredibly sharp and contrasty color print or a soft and romantic black and white - the papers are the perfect substrate to complement our images. Unlike traditional photographic papers, the matte paper is completely non-reflective so you have a fully glare-free experience when viewing the book in any lighting and from any angle. It’s more like looking through an open window to a past moment than looking at a photograph.
FAQS - FINE ART FOLIOS
Since the Folio consists exclusively of our Hand Finished Fine Art Prints, like all fine prints, there is only printing on one side. We can place multiple images on one side of a page however.
Fine Art Prints will have a border as a frame. For matte finish images that run off the edge of the page, choose the Coffee Table Book.
